Sports clubs and groups across Cork East constituency are set to receive a total of €1.354 million says Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice David Stanton TD. Funding is being allocated under the under the Sports Capital Programme 2017 which is run by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport
“It is great to see so many local voluntary groups, community organisations and clubs receiving support under this year’s Sports Capital Programme. A total of 36 organisations across my constituency of Cork East submitted successful applications this year and will now receive funding to progress capital projects, purchase equipment and enhance facilities.
“The Sports Capital Programme 2017 opened in February using a simplified online application process. It was expected at the time that a total budget of €30 million would be available but I understand that his has been almost doubled with a total of €55.831 million having been allocated to sports and other organisations nationwide.
“I would like to extend my congratulations to all of the 36 organisations who were successful in this year’s funding round. In particular, I would like to congratulate all the volunteers who gave up their time to compile the applications. I hope that all the monies received will allow clubs to enhance their services on offer to members and improve participation levels into the future.”
“This is the fourth round of funding under the Sports Capital Programme since it was reinstated by Fine Gael in 2012. The Sports Capital Programme represents excellent value for money as investing in promoting active lifestyles provides great returns from a population health perspective. Active engagement in sports is also hugely beneficial to individuals, it not only helps keep people healthy, but also builds confidence, independence and promotes team building.
