Fine Gael TD for Cork East and Minister of State at the Department of Justice & Equality, David Stanton has welcomed the allocation of Summer Works Scheme to 10 local schools.

“The Summer Works Scheme funds small and medium scale building works to improve and upgrade school facilities. A number of primary and secondary schools in my constituency of Cork East have been successful in securing funding in the recently announced second round of funding.

“Successful primary schools were Castletownroche NS, Clonpriest NS, SN Seosamh Cobh, Scoil na mBraithre Midleton, St Fergal’s Killeagh, Scoil Ghobnatan Mallow and SN Cill Dairbhe Kildorrery. The second level schools which will receive funding are Mitchelstown CBS , Davis College Mallow and St Fanahan’s College Mitchelstown”, said Minister Stanton.

The Summer Works Scheme allows schools to take responsibility for managing and delivering small and medium projects and so promotes good value for money. The type of works funded under the scheme include mechanical , electrical/gas, sanitation, window and roofing works to buildings and also other structural or external environment projects. It operates in addition to other capital funding projects such as the additional accommodation scheme.

“This investment in local schools is part of an overall allocation of €47million to 438 schools. It forms part of a wide ranging, extensive and continued investment by the Government in capital funding projects for schools and is in addition to almost €500 million investment this year under the School Building and Modernisation Programme.
