The allocation of almost €200,000 to a total of 56 local community groups, sports clubs and men’s sheds has been welcomed by Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice & Equality, David Stanton. The allocation was made by Cork County Council through the Community Enhancement Programme which is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development.

“It is great to see that so many different organisations in Cork East constituency have been successful in securing funding through the Community Enhancement Programme. This programme forms a vital part of the Government’s plan to regenerate rural Ireland by supporting community groups to enhance services and facilities in their area. Funding is distributed to these groups through the Local Community Development Committees.

“A wide range of projects can be funded under this scheme and grant awards can range from €500 to €60,000. Some funding is ring-fenced for smaller projects such as purchasing defibrillators, lawnmowers and IT equipment but many larger projects in disadvantaged areas are also supported. Examples of larger scale developments include the renovation of community centres, community and age friendly amenities, improvements to town parks and other public spaces, environmental and energy efficiency projects.
