Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton has welcomed the Government’s decision to fund the upgrading of a number of roads in the East Cork area. The funding will be allocated under the Government Jobs Initiative scheme announced last week and should provide a welcome employment boost for the area.
“I am very pleased that Cork County Council has been allocated an additional €8 million under the Jobs Initiative scheme to carry out vital upgrading works to some local roads. This will allow key road repairs to be completed to road which have been very badly damaged from the last two severe winters. In addition to improving local roads, this funding should also create some jobs for the area.
“The roads in East Cork which have been provisionally selected for improvements under this additional road restoration scheme are the roads in Saleen village (LP3629), Clearies Cross to Gortroo (7856/8), River Street in Cloyne (R629) and Hillside in Upper Aghada (LP3658). The total cost of these works to be carried out this year has been estimated to cost over €550,000.
“The €8 million awarded to Cork County Council under this scheme is in addition to almost €20 million allocated under the initial road restoration grants for 2011.
