The introduction of free parking at stations along the Cork to Midleton rail line has been warmly welcomed by David Stanton, Fine Gael TD for Cork East. Iarnrod Eireann have decided to suspend parking fees at Midleton, Carrigtwohill, Glounthaune and Little Island over the summer months, beginning tomorrow, June 1st.

“I would like to congratulate Iarnrod Eireann for offering their East Cork rail customers free parking for June, July and August. I would hope that this initiative would provide an additional incentive to the people of East Cork to leave their cars at home and to use this fast and efficient rail service”, said Deputy Stanton.

“Since the opening of the Cork to Midleton train service a few years ago I have been in regular contact with Iarnrod Eireann regarding the car parking charges at stations in East Cork. I would hope that if this move is successful in increasing customer numbers that Iarnrod Eireann would consider extending free parking on a full time basis.
