Local and European Elections to be held on 23rd May

Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton has called on all voters in East Cork to check the register to ensure they have a vote ahead of this year’s Local and European Elections. Both elections will take place on Friday, 23rd May.

“I would ask all eligible voters in East Cork to either check that they have a vote on www.checktheregister.ie or by going to their local Garda Station, Post Office or library which all have copies of the electoral register. If your name is not on the register, you still have plenty of time be added to the supplementary register which will allow you to vote for your preferred candidate or candidates in May.

“Checking that you have a vote is particularly important for anyone who has recently moved to East Cork or changed address should make sure that they are registered to vote in their local area. Anyone who needs to transfer their vote, who has recently turned 18 or who has never voted before but would like to vote in these elections can download an application forms RFA2 or RFA3 for inclusion on the supplementary register from www.checktheregister.ie or from the Franchise section of Cork County Council website www.corkcoco.ie. These forms must be witnessed by a member of An Garda Siochana.

“There are also Special Voters and Postal Voters Forms available from Cork County Council. Special Voters are persons who are resident in hospitals or nursing homes so are not able to attend a polling station to vote. These people need to fill out Part A form SV1 and have their doctor complete Part B. Postal Voter form PV1 is for persons who are living at home but due to physical illness or disability will not be able to go to a polling station. This form must also be completed by a doctor. Form PV2 is for persons who due to their occupation or education will not be able to attend their polling station to vote.

“People can also call to or contact my constituency office at 29 St Mary’s Road, Midleton (Tel: 021 4632867/email: david.stanton@oir.ie) if they would like to collect a form or have one sent out to them.

“The right to vote is central to our democracy and it is important that anyone who is eligible to vote makes sure they exercise that right. Closing date for inclusion on the supplementary register is Tuesday May 6th, or April 26th for Postal Votes”, concluded Deputy Stanton.
