Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stanton, has welcomed confirmation that a total of €447,658 will be divided amongst twenty sports clubs and groups across Cork East constituency for the purchase of new equipment. Funding is being made available by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport through the Sports Capital Programme.
The funding announced represents applications for equipment only with the top 75% of these applications being approved. Those Sports Capital Programme equipment applications that were not approved may appeal the decision. A further 1,500 non-equipment applications are currently being processed by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and a full allocation list is expected to be finalised by September.

Speaking after confirmation of the allocations, Minister Stanton said “I am very pleased to see that the Sports Capital Programme continues to be of enormous benefit to sports clubs and sporting groups in Cork East. The latest allocations, ranging from €2,000 up to €150,000, will provide funding for the purchase of technical equipment across a wide variety of local sporting endeavours and I have no doubt that each of the twenty approved groups are delighted with their successful application.
“The Sports Capital Programme is the main source of Government funding for the development of sports infrastructure through the purchase of new equipment or improvements to existing facilities. Clubs in the Cork East area have been very successful in securing Sports Capital funding in the past and I am certain that the latest allocations will only serve to further develop organisations by encouraging increased local engagement.
“This funding programme represents a significant investment in community sport and health by promoting active engagement in sport amongst both younger and older people and the benefits to the local Cork East community are very evident.
