Fine Gael TD for Cork East Constituency, David Stanton, has welcomed confirmation from An Post that the Midleton Post Office service will resume from Monday, 7 September, after a fire at the former premises on 12 August.
The Midleton Post Office will reopen at 9am on 7 September from a new premises at 59 Main Street, Midleton. An Post has advised that local customers temporarily catered for at post offices in Castlemartyr and Carrigtwohill will be transferred back to the Midleton office in time for the reopening.
Speaking following the confirmation, David Stanton said: “Last month’s fire at Midleton Post Office was a very unfortunate event that thankfully did not result in any loss of life. The collective response from the local community following the fire has been greatly evident throughout the town.
“The quick intervention of the Midleton and Cobh Fire Brigades in the immediate aftermath ensured that the fire did not spread to neighbouring premises and businesses on the Main Street. I also understand that some service users have been providing transport to those unable to travel to the relocated services at Castlemartyr and Carrigtwohill.
“I acknowledge the strong commitment of local Postmaster Jessie Moran and An Post to restoring local services as quickly as possible. This has been proven by the fact that full service will recommence less than one month after such a devastating event and I would like to wish all concerned the best with the reopening of this vital service. The new premises, which will be located in close proximity to the former office on the Main Street, will be open 9am-5.30pm Monday to Friday and from 9am-1pm each Saturday”, concluded David Stanton.
