The Mallow branch of the Irish Red Cross has been approved for €50,000 funding under the 2019 CLÁR Programme, says Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stanton. The CLÁR Programme is funded by the Department for Rural and Community Development.
Speaking on the allocation of funds Minister Stanton said: “I would like to congratulate Mallow Red Cross on their success in securing CLÁR funding. The monies will be used for vehicle costs and will allow the branch to continue to provide vital assistance and emergency response services in Mallow and the surrounding area.
“Funding under the first responder stream can be used towards a variety of supports such as rescue group vehicles and trailers, local ambulance group training materials and local community defibrillators and cabinets.
“The work of voluntary organisations, such as Mallow Red Cross, is invaluable to local communities and the latest Measure 3A funding is part of a €567,000 allocation to support 30 first responder organisations in rural areas across the country. This builds on the €2.4 million previously provided to organisations under this measure since 2017. The CLÁR Programme, which forms a significant part of Fine Gael’s Action Plan for Rural Development, has funded a total of over 2,000 projects to date since its reintroduction in 2016”, concluded Minister Stanton.
