The Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality will begin its hearings tomorrow, Wednesday, 19th February 2014 on submissions received in relation to domestic and sexual violence.

Among those attending tomorrow’s meeting are representatives from Sonas Domestic Violence Charity; Safe Ireland; National Women’s Council of Ireland; Amnesty International Ireland; Barnardos; Domestic Violence Advocacy Service; Child and Family Agency; Immigrant Council of Ireland; Move Ireland; The Men’s Development Network Ltd; Women’s Aid; and Don Hennessy.

Committee Chairman David Stanton, TD, said: “Last April, the Committee invited written submissions from interested groups or individuals in relation to the issue of domestic and sexual violence and we published those submissions in November to stimulate debate and lead to a more informed engagement on this subject at our hearings. Tomorrow, we will begin our hearings on the submissions we received and we will examine the issue of domestic and sexual violence in detail with a number of organisations and individuals to get their perspectives on how the problem can be addressed, reduced and eliminated. Following the hearings our Committee hopes to make genuine, practical and realistic recommendations to the Minister in a report on the subject.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 2 at 2pm tomorrow, Wednesday, 19th February 2014.
