Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton has welcomed funding from the Department of Education and Skills for St Brigid’s Primary School in Midleton and St Colman’s National School in Cloyne.
“I am pleased that an additional mainstream classroom has been sanctioned for St Colman’s NS and that funding has been made available for external environmental work at St Brigid’s. These projects come in addition to large scale investment by the Government in East Cork schools over the past year. Kilcredan NS, last year opened an excellent new extension, Whitegate NS, Aghada NS, Scarleigh NS and St John the Baptist NS have also completed substantial extension projects”, said Deputy Stanton.
“In addition to extension projects, the process is well underway for two new schools in the Midleton area. Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corann and Midleton Educate Together both require new premises to allow both schools to cater for demand for places for pupils. I understand that the planning process for the Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corann at a site in Baneshane should soon be completed and that site acquisition negotiations are at an advanced stage for a new premises for Midleton Educate Together.
“The Department of Education recently announced that they are seeking patronage for a new primary school in Carrigtwohil. This will be in addition to the amalgamation of the two existing primary schools in Carrigtwohill, Scoil Mhuire Naofa and Scoil Chlochair Mhuire. The Department are still in the process of securing a site for this new amalgamated school which will also accommodate a new second level school for Carrigtwohill.
