Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton, is urging all sports clubs, community organisations and local groups interested in securing funding under the 2021 Sports Capital and Equipment Programme (SCEP) to ensure that they are registered by the 12 February deadline in order to submit an online application.

The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media has confirmed a €40 million allocation for the 2021 Sports Capital and Equipment Programme (SCEP). The SCEP is the Government’s primary vehicle for providing support to sports clubs and communities around the country to enable the development of local sports infrastructure. The 2021 programme will be open for applications from 9am on Friday, 11 December until 5pm on Friday, 12 February 2021 with applications to be submitted online only.

Speaking after the Department’s confirmation, David Stanton said: “I would strongly encourage any clubs or organisations in Cork East who wish to apply for funding through the latest round of the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme, to ensure that they have registered on the Department’s online system at before the deadline of 5pm on  Friday, 12 February.

“This is the first step in submitting an application for grant funding to the 2021 SCEP which will be solely conducted online. The system will be open for applications from Friday, 11 December and a guide to making an application is currently available on the website While the window for registration and application is two months, I recommend that any clubs or organisations interested in applying for funding begin preparing the paperwork and consulting the application guide as soon as possible.

“The Sports Capital and Equipment Programme is of enormous benefit to the health and wellbeing of local communities. Restrictions on sports club and group activities have presented challenges this year but the latest tranche of funding for the SCEP offers local clubs and organisations the opportunity to further improve and develop facilities. Clubs in the Cork East area have been very successful in securing Sports Capital funding in the past, with over €1.5 million being allocated between both ‘capital development’ and ‘equipment only’ applications in 2019”, concluded David Stanton.
