Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton attended the “ground breaking” ceremony for a new day recreation room at Cobh Hospital on Monday, 8th December.

“I was very pleased to be present at this event to mark the beginning of the construction of a new recreation day room and dining room for Cobh Community Hospital”, said Deputy Stanton. “This facility will be built on the old dispensary site to the front of the main building and will also include a basement storage area along with an automated main entrance linking the new room to the hospital.

“I understand that this new building forms part of a very ambitious development project which includes the fit out and occupation of the first floor of the nearby Park Road Centre, refurbishment of St Brigid’s and St Patrick’s Wards, transfer of administration offices to St John’s Floor, alterations to St Ann’s Floor, upgrading of facilities such as parking, IT systems, fire safety features and patient rooms, equipment and facilities.

“All the planned developments, some of which are already completed, will greatly enhance the experience of patients and their visitors and improve staff facilities. I have always been delighted to support Cobh Community Hospital and feel that the Board of Management, Staff and Friends of Cobh Hospital should all be congratulated on the effort they have all put in to ensuring this project comes to fruition.

“Friends of Cobh Hospital have been hugely successful in harnessing the good will and support of the wider community to fundraise very large sums of money to ensure changes can be made to the hospital to ensure the continued compliance with HIQA standards, improve occupancy and ensure its economic viability. I understand that they hope to provide approximately €250,000 of the €340,000 required to complete the total refurbishment project due to be completed early next year”, concluded David Stanton TD.
