Four towns in Cork East Constituency are set to receive millions of euro in funding under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund says Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stanton. The funding is being made available by the Department of Housing, Planning & Local Government under Project Ireland 2040.
“Project Ireland has an overall budget of €4 billion from 2018 to 2027 but the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) comprises half of this funding with a total budget of €2 billion. The fund is the largest urban regeneration initiative for decades and was established to rejuvenate large towns and cities through more compact and sustainable development”, said Minister Stanton.
“Midleton has been allocated €915,000 for the Main Street public realm project which includes substantial streetscape improvements. Mallow will receive €470,000 for town regeneration works. Both these allocations come under Category A of the fund which supports projects that are shovel-ready.
“Carrigtwohill, Cobh and Midleton will also benefit from Cork Metropolitan Area funding. This funding will distribute €3,593,000 over six projects including Carrigtwohill, Cobh and Midleton. These projects, under Catogory B, all of which are approved in principle and are at a master planning or feasibility stage and include public realm works and a diaspora centre in Cobh.
“I am very pleased that such substantial funding has been made available for these four towns in Cork East Constituency. The allocations will allow for large-scale public realm works to be carried out and will ensure that these urban areas remain attractive and vibrant places to live and work into the future. I understand that further URDF funding round will open in February 2019.”
