This is a vital piece of infastructure which will not only allow for future population growth in Carrigtwohill but also for development in the wider East Cork area as it will treat waste from Castlemartyr, Killeagh and Cloyne also. The previous plant was overloaded and had odour and noise issues which will the new plant will not have due to the new, innovative biological treatment system which is being used here.
“Carrigtohill is one of the fastest growing towns in Ireland and is a major pharmaceutical and biotechnology hub. This project will enable new schools and housing developments as well as attracting and supporting future industry in locating in the area. The project will also ensure that the plant complies with discharge requirements into Cork Harbour.
“The extensive upgrade of Carrigtwohill plant is an example of Irish Water’s €530 million investment in upgrading services in 2016. This continued investment in modern, high technology wastewater facilities that support the environment, industry, local tourism and economic development.
