The granting of planning permission for a new Midleton Educate Together NS has been welcomed by David Stanton. The new school will be located on the Mill Road at Broomfield West, Midleton.
“I am very pleased that the new Midleton Educate Together has been given the go ahead for a new 2 storey, 24 classroom school which will allow a move from the temporary premises at Market Green to a permanent site. I understand that the tendering process is underway with a view to starting construction in the coming months”, said David Stanton.
“This new build will allow Midleton Educate Together to cater for future demand for places. It is a hugely popular school with enrolment growing considerably year on year. In addition to the 24 classrooms, the new school will have a 4 classroom special needs unit, support teacher places and ancillary accommodation and a PE hall with a total floor area of over 4,600 square metres.
“The outdoor facilities will include ball courts, cycle storage, gardens and landscaping. There will also be a new access road, 58 car parking spaces and drop-off and pick-up facilities both within the site and on the Mill Road.
“This is the latest in what has been a very significant investment by the current Government in primary and second level education in the East Cork area. At primary level, large extensions have been added to Kilcredan NS, Scartleigh NS in Saleen, Whitegate Mixed NS, Scoil Iosagain in Aghada, St John the Baptist NS and Rushbrooke NS. A new Community National School, Scoil Chliodhna, opened last September in Carrigtwohill and construction is ongoing on Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corann.
“At second level, St Aloysius’ College and St Mary’s High School has been extended and Midleton CBS Secondary School opened what is virtually a new school in September this year and construction is underway at St Colman’s for a huge extension.
“It is very exciting to see such large scale improvements to East Cork’s schools. Our young people and their teachers will benefit from the excellent, state of the art educational facilities which make the area such a good place to live, work and raise a family.
