Sports clubs and groups across Cork East constituency are set to receive a total of €145,000 says Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stanton. Funding is being made available by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport through the Sports Capital Programme 2018.
The funding announced represents the first set of allocations under the 2018 round of the Sports Capital Programme and relates to projects which had previously been deemed invalid under the 2017 round of the programme and were resubmitted.
Local clubs and groups to benefit from the funding allocation include:
Club/Organisation – Project description – Funding amount
• Cork Association for Autism – installation of a multi-use games area – €18,400
• Mallow Basketball Club – updating of existing basketball boards – €1,400
• Mitchelstown Community Centre – climbing wall – €48,000
• St.Colman’s College, Fermoy – upgrade and refurbishment of existing handball alleys – €77,200
Minister Stanton confirmed the funding approval, saying “I am delighted to see that four local sports clubs and organisations are set to benefit from Sports Capital funding which I am certain will make a big difference to each of them.
“The Sports Capital Programme is the main source of Government funding for the development of sports infrastructure through facilities improvements or the purchase of new equipment. It represents an excellent value for money investment in sport and the health of our communities with the benefits plain to see. Active engagement in sports not only helps keep young people healthy, but also builds confidence, independence and promotes team building.
“Clubs in the Cork East area have been very successful in securing Sports Capital funding in the past, having previously received a total of €2.634 million in the four funding rounds since Fine Gael reinstated the programme in 2012” concluded Minister Stanton.
