Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton says he believes the stretch of the N25 from Midleton to Carrigtwohill should be upgraded. Upgrading works would include the construction of overpasses and local access routes and improved road surface and markings.

“The N25 between Midleton and Carrigtwohill is a very busy stretch of road with many people using it daily to commute to work. Recently works were undertaken on the N25 from Little Island to Carrigtwohill which have improved the surface and visibility of exits from the dual carriageway and I would like to see these improvements carried on from Carrigtwohill to Midleton.

“A proper network of slip roads, local access roads and overpasses on this part of the N25 is also essential and will greatly enhance road safety and I have written to the Minister for Transport, Cork County Council and NRA regarding this. I understand that there were plans for these works when the Amgen site was being planned, and now with calls to close the medians due to safety concerns it is even more important to provide alternative routes for local people and local businesses.

“In addition to improving driving conditions for motorists, upgrading of this part of the N25 will also heighten the attractiveness of the former Amgen site to industry. I have been pressing the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD and the IDA to continue to market this site. In my opinion it is one of the best sites in Europe, easily accessible by rail and road and within a short distance from Cork Airport and Port, University College Cork and Cork Institute of Technology.
