Fine Gael TD for Cork East, David Stanton, has today (Wednesday) welcomed the announcement by GE Healthcare that it is to invest US$10 million in its Carrigtwohill plant.
“I welcome today’s announcement by GE Healthcare of a US$10 million investment in its Carrigtwohill plant, which will be used to create a new production suite, which will increase the capacity of its manufacturing facilities by 50%.
“In addition, GE is planning to increase its production levels by operating over weekends. It is estimated that this will create 50 jobs directly, as well as providing a much-needed boost to the local economy. Almost 450 people are employed at GE’s Carrigtwohill plant and today’s announcement reinforces the company’s commitment to Cork and the Irish workforce.
“GE Healthcare exports to around 70 countries worldwide and ships 25, 40-foot containers on a weekly basis. This is another example of how important it is for this Government to focus on encouraging foreign direct investment in this country, in order to create much-needed jobs.”
