Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton has been nominated to Chair the Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality.
“This is one of the busiest committees in the Dail and I am really looking forward to the challenge. The Committee deals with criminal justice, the Courts Service, the Prison Service, policing and defence matters as well as equality issues.
“Given the new structures that have been put in place since the election and with the added responsibility imposed by the Lisbon Treaty, Oireachtas Committees will have a much more meaningful role from here on. I will as Chairperson endeavour to make this Committee as relevant as possible to the lives of the people we all serve.
