Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton has called for An Post to retain a post office in Ballinacurra. The current post office is due to close shortly.
“I am very disappointed at the decision by An Post to not look for other expressions of interest for the contract of Ballinacurra post office. I believe An Post should explore every possibility of maintaining a post office in Ballinacurra. The current post office is very busy and provides a vital community service to the people of Ballinacurra and the surrounding area.
“In the event that Ballinacurra post office is closed, people will have to travel into the larger post office in Midleton. The Midleton office is extremely busy, with very large queues outside the building. As a result many people from Midleton frequently travel to the Ballinacurra office to access post office services there. The withdrawal of Ballinacurra post office services will obviously put the Midleton office under even more strain.
“Ballinacurra has had a post office since the 1850s and I firmly believe in the importance of retaining such a service in the area. I have contacted An Post requesting they take action to maintain Ballinacurra Post Office. An Post should also issue a public statement explaining their reasons for deciding to discontinue with the service.
“In addition to contacting An Post, I have also written to the Minister seeking his support for the retention of An Post services in Ballinacurra. Ballinacurra is a growing area with many new housing estates. I feel that it is important for people that their local post office continues to operate.
