Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice & Equality, David Stanton has welcomed the news that the large extension project for St Colman’s NS Cloyne has been approved to proceed to tender.  The project includes four new classrooms, toilets, resource rooms and a staff car park.

Minister Stanton said: “I am delighted that this long-awaited and large extension project has been given approval to go to tender following planning approval earlier this year.    I would like to congratulate Principal Mary O’Brien, members of the board of management, staff and parents for their hard work in bringing this long-awaited project to fruition.”

“This project will have a total budget of over €1 million and will involve the construction of four general classrooms plus resource rooms and toilets and I understand that a fifth classroom is also due to be added soon.  These new rooms will mean that yard space at the front of the school which currently contains temporary accommodation will, once again, be freed up for use by pupils at break times.

“A new staff car park will be developed in the field to the back of the school.  Having substantial staff parking available will greatly assist traffic flow and congestion outside the school thus improving road safety and access to the school by pupils in the morning and evenings”, said David Stanton.

Minister Stanton concluded: “Cloyne NS is a hugely popular school due to its fantastic reputation and this project will allow the school to meet the high demand for places.   I am confident that this project will not only greatly benefit pupils and staff but also ensure the school’s ongoing success into the future.”
