Six harbours and piers in East Cork are to receive a combined €241,875 in funding for refurbishment, David Stanton, Fine Gael general election candidate for Cork East has learned. Funding is being allocated to Cork County Council from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
“This funding is very welcome as it will allow for essential repair works to piers and slipways, many of which were damaged by recent storms and for some improvements to others. All these works will improve piers and harbour facilities and should help improve and encourage usage by local people and enhance tourism and marine facilities in East Cork.
“East Ferry pier just outside Midleton will receive €13,125 for a new pier deck, improvements to pier access and safety railings. Guileen, near Whitegate has been allocated €22,500 for repairs to the concrete apron slab at the slip and other protective works.
“€18,750 has been awarded for eight new visitor moorings in Youghal harbour.
“In Cobh, Lynch’s Quay has been awarded €30,000 for repairs to the concrete slipway and White Point Pier will receive €45,000 to repair the old concrete pier. €112,500 will be spent on repairs to the pier walls and the pier deck at Spike Island.
