David Stanton, Fine Gael TD for Cork East and Minister of State at the Department of Justice and Equality has welcomed the decision between the Department of Education and Educate Together to open an Educate Together primary school in Fermoy. The new school will be open to pupils in September 2018.
“I am very pleased that a new Educate Together primary school is to be opened in Fermoy in time for the new academic year. The school is being established under the patronage divesting process with Fermoy having been identified in 2012/2013 as one of the areas where there was sufficient demand for such a change.
“It is my understanding that for the coming school year the school will cater for junior infants only and that enrolments will open very soon. I have been advised that for this school year the Department of Education has devolved provision of temporary accommodation to Educate Together. In this regard, Educate Together has arranged for the school to open in temporary accommodation in the Fermoy Youth Centre in September 2018”, said Minister Stanton.
“However, further to discussions between the Department of Education and Cork ETB, the new school will co-located in September 2019 on the site of the former Technical School in Fermoy, together with some of the ETB’s Further Education and Training services.
“I would like to congratulate everyone involved in the negotiations about establishing this new school. I know from contact from constituents that demand was high from parents in the area for the opening of a new Educate Together in Fermoy and I am delighted that plans will now come to fruition.
