The publication of a site notice indicating the intention for the HSE to seek planning permission to develop Midleton Community Hospital has been welcomed by Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice & Equality, David Stanton. The proposed plans are for a 50 bed, two storey community nursing and residential care unit which will modernise the current facility.
“I am very pleased that a planning permission is soon to be lodged with Cork County Council for this much anticipated development at Midleton Hospital. In addition to the 50 en suite bedrooms, there are also plans to develop dining rooms, kitchenettes, day rooms and treatment rooms with other communal spaces such as an indoor courtyard, quiet rooms, activity rooms, sun rooms and a hairdressing salon.
“Staff facilities will also be modernised including improvements to accommodation and office spaces as will visitor facilities which will include a family overnight room. The outdoor aspect of the hospital will also be landscaped”, said Minister Stanton.
“This project is being delivered as one of the public private partnership (PPP) initiatives of the HSE Capital Development Plan. Once the statutory approvals process has been completed it is envisaged that construction will begin and I understand that the current target date for completion is scheduled for 2022.
“I am sure that progress with Midleton Community Hospital will be warmly welcomed by staff, residents and their families who will all benefit from new and modern facilities and also the wider community who value the great work of local HSE staff and recognise the huge asset the hospital is to the town and surrounding area”, concluded Minister Stanton.
