Midleton CBS Principal Pat Hurley & David Stanton TD viewing progress at Midleton CBS Secondary
Cork East Fine Gael TD David Stanton has welcomed the continued progress with the construction of a new school for Midleton CBS Secondary School. The new premises, once completed, will allow for enrolment to increase to 1000 students over the coming years.
“I was delighted to visit Midleton CBS to see the progress to date on the new building. Midleton CBS, Principal Pat Hurley deserves huge credit for his role in the project which he advised me will be completed on schedule in July 2015. Refurbishment works will also be carried out on the old school in tandem with this project, all of which will be completed in time for the new school year in September 2015.
“This is a very exciting project for Midleton. The new school will be a three storey, state of the art building, with a BER (energy efficiency) A rating incorporating water harvesting facilities. In addition to new classrooms, PE hall and additional locker room space, the new school will have modern science, technology engineering rooms and IT equipment and new outdoor playing areas including one astroturf pitch.
“The multimillion euro investment in the CBS project is a real vote of confidence in Midleton and in the long tradition of Christian Brother education here. Many people have been involved in bringing this project to fruition, in addition to the work of the Board of Management, Principal and staff with the Department of Education and those involved in the construction and design, support of the Past Pupils’ Union and Parents’ Association should also be acknowledged.
“The new facilities, which will cater for 650 students in September will bring great benefits to staff and students and will allow for the much needed expansion of the school in the future to 1000 students. Demand for second level school places in Midleton and East Cork is growing year on year and the CBS project is just one of the projects, in addition to works at St Colman’s Community College and a new second level school in Carrigtwohill, which are planned to meet this demand.
