The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, has confirmed that total funding of €424,646.14 is to be allocated between five projects in Cork East Constituency under the appeals process of the 2020 Sports Capital and Equipment Programme, according to local Fine Gael TD, David Stanton.
An additional €6.14 million is to be allocated to 108 projects nationwide as part of the appeals process for the 2020 Sports Capital and Equipment Programme. Total funding of almost €144 million was allocated under the initial funding round of the 2020 programme in February of this year with unsuccessful applicants subsequently given the opportunity to appeal the original decision.
Having now concluded the appeals process, the Department has announced that the funding applications of the following five projects in Cork East Constituency have been successfully appealed:
Organisation – Project – Allocation
- Cobh Golf Club – Upgrade of fairways machinery and solar panels – €61,737.22
- Fermoy GAA – Construction of all weather pitch 80x37m and ball wall – €119,338.94
- Imogeela Community Sports Hall – Imogeela All Weather Pitch – €60,185.01
- Midleton My Place – Sports Hall Heating Covid friendly project – €116,952.16
- Mitchelstown Lawn Tennis Club – Development Plan Phase 2 for external facilities – €66,432.81
David Stanton said: “Sports Capital funding is vital in ensuring the maintenance and progression of sport clubs and organisations and safeguarding their continued use for the benefit of local communities. A record number of applications were submitted under the initial 2020 round of the programme and given the importance of the funding in maintaining physical and mental wellbeing, particularly during the pandemic, I had asked the Minister that the Department consider granting additional funding to the 2020 programme.
“Cork East projects were very successful in the initial funding allocation granted earlier this year and I am happy to learn that an additional five local projects have now been approved following appeal. The latest funding covers a wide range of sports facilities across the constituency which are all of major importance in promoting physical activity and engagement in their area and I congratulate all involved”, concluded David Stanton.
