After many years waiting for a permanent new school, East Cork Fine Gael TD, David Stanton, understands that construction is due to commence shortly on a new school for Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corann. The new Gaelscoil will be located at Baneshane just outside Midleton.
“Planning permission for Gaelsoil Mhainistir na Corann was granted on 12th March 2015, and I have been informed that contracts will be signed this week and that construction should begin shortly after this. This will be a relief for teachers, parents and pupils who will all benefit from new purpose built modern accommodation.
“Midleton Community Centre Ltd provided the Gaelscoil with accommodation for the last 16 years during which time the Gaelscoil has outgrown the Centre. The demand for places is testament to the excellent education children receive in the school.
“The new premises for Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corann is the latest in what has been a very significant investment by the Government in primary and secondary education in the East Cork area in recent years. Large extensions have been added to Kilcredan NS, Scartleigh NS in Saleen, Whitegate Mixed NS, Scoil Iosagain in Aghada, St Mary’s High School, Midleton CBS Secondary School with work to be undertaken shortly at St Colman’s Community College. Midleton Educate Together is also due to get a new premises and Carrigtwohill is due to get three new schools.
