€65,594 awarded to improve energy efficiency and disabled access
Coral Leisure Centre in Carrignafoy, Cobh has been awarded €65,594 says Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton under the Local Authority Swimming Pool Programme.
“This allocation of over €65,000 is good news for Cobh Swimming Pool as it will allow for upgrading work to be carried out in the leisure centre. I understand that the monies will be used to enhance accessibility for people with disabilities and measures to improvement the for energy efficiency of the facility.
Today’s funding announcement for Cobh forms part of a grant package of almost €3.4 million released by Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring TD for upgrading works to 16 swimming pools across the country under the Local Authority Swimming Pool Programme. This funding comes in addition to €10.94 million in 2011 and €3.36 million in 2012, giving a total of €17.7 million to Local Authority swimming pools since this Government came into office.
“Cobh Swimming Pool is an important amenity for local schools and people in Cobh and beyond who travel to Cobh to use the facility. Swimming is an excellent form of exercise for people of all ages and improved disability access will ensure the pool continues to be accessible to everyone and sustainable into the future. Energy efficiency works will also improve sustainability by reducing running costs.
