Ballycotton Harbour is to benefit from Local Authority Harbour Programme funding of €36,844 for two separate projects, Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stanton, has confirmed. Funding is being made available under the Local Authority Harbour Programme whereby the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, co-funds up to 75% of the total cost of approved projects with Cork County Council providing the balance.
“Under the funding package, Ballycotton Harbour has been granted €14,344 for the provision of new power supply facilities and a further €22,500 to enable the establishment of an adequate waste oil collection facility and other waste collection facilities on the quay side. The harbour plays a critical role in the social and economic wellbeing of the coastal community of Ballycotton and I am confident that the funding will only serve to further strengthen its operation and ultimately its importance to the local area.
“In addition to the employment created during the works, this funding will contribute to the ongoing development of fishing related activities. It will also increase participation in marine leisure and help to attract tourists to the area”, said Minister Stanton.
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has announced a total funding package of €2,206,875 under the Local Authority Harbour Programme which forms part of the department’s 2019 Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme. This programme will aid 12 coastal local authorities in completing 39 different development and repair projects on harbours and slipways throughout the country. The funding allocated will provide for maintenance and repair works in addition to supporting the ongoing development and enhancement of harbour facilities including some marine leisure developments.
