The decision to provide funding for repairs to the slipway at Ballinwillig has been welcomed by Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton. Funding of €26,250 will be allocated to Cork County Council from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine to meet the cost of repairs.
“I am very pleased that additional funding has been made available to Cork County Council from the Department of Agriculture for this project. The total budget for the reconstruction of the existing slipway is €35,000 of which the Department will provide €26,250 which is 75% of the cost.
“This award comes from existing resources and is further to a final call to all Local Authorities for projects that are ‘shovel ready’. I understand that a further condition of the funding is that works gets underway as soon as possible to ensure that it will be completed by the end of November.
“The slipway at Ballinwillig was badly damaged by storms and I know Cork County Council had included these repair works in their 2015 application to the Department of Agriculture under the Marine Leisure programme. Quite a number of local people have made contact with me regarding the need for works to be completed, so I am glad that they will soon be able to use the slipway again.
