With polling day tomorrow, David Stanton, Fine Gael TD for Cork East was pleased to visit shops, restaurants and businesses in Youghal this morning. David was accompanied by Youghal Town and Cork County Councillor Barbara Murray, and other members of his campaign team.
“It was great to spend a few hours meeting business owners and their employees and listen to their concerns,” said Deputy Stanton. “I am aware that Youghal has suffered from recent factory closures and this has been very difficult for the people of Youghal. It was also unfortunate that the planned decentralisation of two Government Departments to Youghal did not go ahead. Issues such as an improved N25 from Midleton to Youghal and improved broadband infrastructure would really help to attract industry to the town again.
“It is vitally important that small, local businesses are supported in every way. They are the main source of income and employment in the town. We must ensure existing businesses are supported and business start-ups are encouraged. I am doing my best to support Cllr Murray in her work with Youghal Socio-Economic Development Group to develop and expand the local enterprise centre and support traders in the town,”
“I have also been working with people in the area to promote the Blackwater region as a separate tourist identity. I think Youghal has great tourism potential which should be further exploited,”
concluded David Stanton TD.
