Cork East Fine Gael TD David Stanton has welcomed plans by Irish Water to upgrade the wastewater treatment plant at Castlemartyr.

Deputy Stanton said: “The treatment plant at Castlemartyr, has for many years, been a cause for serious concern for local people and environmentalists alike and is long overdue attention.

“I understand that the proposed project is to increase the capacity of Castlemartyr Wastewater Treatment Plant by 70% with a modular design to allow for future expansion. It is expected that Irish Water will submit a planning application before the middle of 2022 with the hope to begin construction, all going well, by this time next year.

“It will take about a year and a half to complete the work, but it will mean that, when completed, the problems caused by the present situation will be resolved and that, in the meantime, plans can be worked on to further develop Castlemartyr, to provide additional housing and badly needed community facilities”; concluded David Stanton.
