Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton, is delighted to learn that the Department of Education has confirmed that the Carrigtwohill School Campus project has been given approval to move to tender.
The project includes a new post-primary facility for Carrigtwohill Community College for up to 1000 students, new 24 classroom school buildings for both Scoil Mhuire Naofa and Scoil Chliodhna primary schools. All three school builds will also feature 3 class SEN units each.
Speaking after the Department’s confirmation, David Stanton said: “The approval for the Carrigtwohill School Campus project to proceed to tender is very welcome news for the pupils, parents and teachers of the three schools after such a long process. This campus represents the single biggest build undertaken by the Department of Education and is paramount in ensuring the future educational needs of Carrigtwohill and the wider area.
“Planning permission for the project was secured last summer and given the scale of the project it has taken considerable time to progress to tender. I acknowledge that the length of this process may have caused concern locally however with the project now proceeding to tender I would expect a contractor to be appointed in the near future and ground to be broken on site shortly thereafter.
“This is a very positive step in the development of the project and I will continue to liaise with the Department of Education and the relevant Ministers to ensure that the project continues to progress as quickly as is possible”, concluded Deputy Stanton.
