Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stanton, has welcomed the 18.8% annual decrease in the latest Live Register figures for Cork East constituency.
Speaking after publication of the May figures by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), Minister Stanton said: “It is very encouraging to see the continued decrease in the number of people on the Live Register in Cork East with a reduction of over 1,000 people since last year. The continued decline in those signing on to the Live Register in Social Welfare Offices in Cobh, Fermoy, Mallow, Midleton and Youghal has contributed to an overall drop of 63.5% in Cork East constituency and 57% nationwide since Fine Gael entered into Government in March 2011.

“The 4.4% monthly unemployment rate for May represents the lowest rate since 2005. This is positive news further to the recent national Labour Force Survey, which indicated that more than 2.3 million people were employed in Ireland in the first quarter of 2019, a 3.6% increase on the same period in 2018.
“This consistent growth reflects the success of the Government’s annual Action Plans for Jobs and the new Future Jobs Ireland framework. Future Jobs Ireland follows on from the Action Plan for Jobs and aims to support business and invest in the development of people so they can benefit from technological advances and attract and retain talent.
