A funding allocation of almost €433,000 for three projects in Mitchelstown has been welcomed by Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stanton. Funding is being made available through the LEADER programme operated by the Department of Community and Rural Development
“I am very pleased that three projects in Mitchelstown have secured funding in this round of the LEADER programme. LEADER funding aims to support and enhance rural communities and businesses by improving local facilities and services”, said Minister Stanton.
“Mitchelstown Tennis Club has secured €200,000 under the Basic Services for Hard to Reach Communities strand of the LEADER programme. This is for the construction and development of a new two-storey community and sports centre at the tennis club which has a total project cost of over €300,000.
“A total of €232,713.86 has been allocated to Mitchelstown Community Centre under the Rural Youth theme. €189,444.15 will go towards a €250,000 project to convert the sports hall at Mitchelstown Leisure Centre for use for community events. Works and improvements will allow the centre to be used as an entertainment venue by providing a demountable stage and retractable seating.
“The balance of €43,269.71 will be used by Mitchelstown Community Centre to pay the majority of the costs for the installation of a climbing wall in the Mitchelstown Leisure Centre”, said Minister Stanton.
Minister Stanton concluded: “I would like to congratulate all those involved in these successful applications for three very worthwhile projects. I am confident that these allocations will result in enhanced sports and community facilities in the Mitchelstown area and will be of great benefit for those living in the town and surrounding area.”
