All primary schools in Cork East Constituency are set to receive the Minor Works Grant says Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stanton. The 2017/2018 allocations will be paid by the Department of Education and Skills to all primary schools next week.
“I am pleased that the Minor Works Grant will issue to schools in the next week. A total of €28.8 million will be paid out across the country. Every primary school will receive a flat rate Minor Works Grant of €5,500 plus an additional €18.50 per mainstream pupil and €74 per special needs pupil who is attending a special school or special class.
“This is an important and useful payment for all primary schools, said Minster Stanton. “Schools can use the grant for a variety of school works, including improvements to school buildings and grounds and improvement or replacement of mechanical and electrical services. It can also be used to purchase furniture and physical education equipment, floor coverings and window blinds, and for IT equipment.
“The Government has invested substantially in major school building programmes across Cork East Constituency at primary and secondary level in recent years. This type of capital investment helps education providers meet the demand for places now and into the future and other programmes such as the emergency works and summer works scheme also help schools meet pressures associated with school upkeep and development. The Minor Works Grants gives additional funding to Boards of Management and principals for facilities, equipment and teaching aids which may not be covered under these other schemes.
