Recent interest and enquiries regarding the former Amgen site outside Carrigtwohill are being actively pursued, Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton has learned. Deputy Stanton understands that IDA Ireland has been approached by four separate potential investors in recent months.

“I believe that the former Amgen site is a top class location for industry, easily accessible by road and rail and in close proximity to Cork Airport and Port. Recently I wrote to the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and IDA Ireland seeking an update on efforts to secure an investor for the site and they assure me that the site is being marketed both here and abroad. It is extremely encouraging to hear of such considerable interest this year.

“The previous investment in the site and surrounding infrastructure and utilities make if very attractive to investors in that it will minimise the start-up cost for IDA and Enterprise Ireland companies. I am advised that IDA continues to actively engage with Cork County Council, utility providers and other key stakeholders and is also evaluating opportunities with regard to master planning to enhance the site’s marketability to prospective clients.

“I am confident that, with sustained marketing and engagement with interested parties, a suitable investor will be secure for the former Amgen site. Securing an indigenous or foreign direct investment company would be a huge boost for Carrigtwohill and Midleton and the East Cork area as a whole.

Dear David,
Thank you for your email of the 23rd of June 2015 regarding the former Amgen site outside Carrigtowhill, Co. Cork.
I have been assured by IDA Ireland that they are continuing to actively market the Carrigtwohill site to potential investors both where the site might meet the requirements of existing clients and on an opportunistic basis. The IDA has informed me that in Q2 2015 there was 4 significant enquires about the site which the IDA is actively pursuing, this is certainly encouraging news.

The site benefits from previous investment made in infrastructure and utilities and, as such, is an attractive location for certain project opportunities as this investment minimises the start – up cost for IDA / Enterprise Ireland clients companies. IDA is currently evaluating opportunities with regard to master planning and investing in marketing collateral to enhance the profile of the site to perspective clients.

IDA has informed me that it will continue to actively engage with Cork County Council, utility providers and other key stakeholders on leveraging the key site attributes, positioning the site for investment and enhancing its marketability.

Securing either an indigenous or foreign direct investment company for the Carrigtwohill site would be a great boost for the East Cork Region and I have been assured that this is being actively pursued.

Yours sincerely,
Richard Bruton T.D.
