Fine Gael TD for Cork East, David Stanton has welcomed today’s announcement of €112,500 in funding for Ballycotton. Funding will be made available to Cork County Council for the purchase and installation of a new marine leisure pontoon.
“Today’s funding is a welcome boost for Ballycotton and its fishing and marine leisure industry. The money is being awarded by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food under the 2014 Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Capital Programme which will see a total of €2.99 million spent across the country.
“This funding shows the Government’s commitment to coastal communities and is crucial to ensuring the long term sustainability of Ballycotton harbour. It will greatly assist with the marine leisure, sport fishing and tourism development of the area. The construction of a pontoon will also assist such welcome initiatives as the new Ballycotton Island Lighthouse Tours which are supported by SECAD and local business and are available all year round,” said David Stanton TD.
“I understand that while this funding makes up the bulk of the cost of the pontoon project, Cork County Council will also contribute to the works. It is envisaged that the total cost of the development will be €150,000. It is really very good news for the local community”, concluded Deputy Stanton.
