Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton has learned that Bus Eireann is increasing the number of buses on the 245 route from Cork to Mitchelstown. Deputy Stanton understands that these changes are due to come into effect this weekend on Sunday, 25th May.

“The enhancement of Bus Eireann’s 245 bus service will be very welcome to a large number of people living along this route, a number of whom have contacted my recently advising that the service from Rathcormac, Watergrasshill and Fermoy to Cork city was very sporadic with large gaps in service. I have been advised that the changes to be introduced will greatly improve the number of buses operating daily.

“I believe that morning services from Mitchelstown could operate every hour, which will be very convenient for anyone commuting to the city for work or study and that there will also be connections to Kilworth and Glanworth. I understand the new 245 route timetable should be available in the coming days on the Bus Eireann website:

“I warmly welcome any improvements to local bus routes as any increase in service level should encourage more people to use public transport. I wrote to Bus Eireann recently regarding the possible extension of Monthly City and Suburban Commuter Tickets to a number of locations in East and North Cork and while they have advised that this is not possible for Watergrasshill, Midleton and Rathcormac at this time, I understand they are looking at adding additional areas to the new Cork Leap Card zones in the near future which should help reduce transport costs for bus users.
