Kilcredan NS is to receive funding for a large extension project as part of a Government stimulus programme says Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton. €100 million is being allocated by to replace or refurbish schools as part of a major investment in the school building programme.
“For quite a number of years I have been working with Kilcredan NS to secure investment in the development of the school. I am very pleased that Kilcredan NS is one of 18 primary schools and 10 second level schools across the country which will benefit from this funding,” said Deputy Stanton.
“I shared the disappointment of teachers, parents and the Board of Management when Kilcredan NS was not included in the Department of Education five year building programme which was announced last year. Parents, teachers and the local community had put a huge effort into fundraising over the years and I am pleased now that the school will now receive state funding for improvements from which both teachers and pupils will benefit.
The announcement that Kilcredan NS will receive funding was made by Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn TD, and the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Brendan Howlin TD last week. The investment of €100 million in the school building programme forms part of the Government’s Investing in Infrastructure and Jobs package.
“This total investment will package will fund the replacement or refurbishment of 18 primary schools and 10 post-primary schools, providing classrooms and facilities for over 10,000 students. It is estimated that these projects will create over 1,200 direct and indirect construction jobs through these projects.
