The Youghal Community Development Resource Centre, Cumann na Daoine, has been approved for funding of €17,714 under the first tranche of the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Covid-19 Stability Fund, according to Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice & Equality, David Stanton.
The Covid-19 Stability Fund provides a once-off grant through the Dormant Accounts Fund to qualifying local community and voluntary organisations, charities and social enterprises which provide critical services to those most vulnerable in society. Total funding of €35 million will be allocated under the fund with 179 organisations nationwide benefitting from grant aid under the initial tranche.
Following confirmation of Cumann na Daoine’s successful application to the fund, David Stanton said: “The COVID-19 Stability Fund is intended to provide a once-off fund injection to the organisations and groups that are critical in delivering front-line services. Such grant aid will be of enormous benefit in enabling these organisations to continue this work at a time when they are needed most and may have seen their fund raising in jeopardy as a result of the health crisis restrictions.
“I understand that there was a considerable volume of applications to the Stability Fund and it is expected that further tranches will be announced in the coming weeks but I have no doubt that this announcement will be very welcome news for all concerned with Cumann na Daoine. Cumann na Daoine continues to promote equality and inclusion in Youghal and the surrounding area by building confidence and awareness of societal issues while providing services and supports to disadvantaged individuals and communities. The work of this community-based organisation is vital to Youghal, no more so than at the current time and I am pleased that this has been recognised by the Department of Rural and Community Development”, concluded David Stanton.
