Cork East Fine Gael TD, and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stanton has welcomed the confirmation that planning permission for proposed works at St. Patrick’s Community Hospital, Fermoy is expected to be lodged with Cork County Council this month.
“St. Patrick’s Community Hospital was allocated €2 million under the HSE’s Capital Programme which was announced in January 2016. The programme provides for the replacement and refurbishment of 90 public nursing homes across the country over the next five years. Plans for St Patrick’s Community Hospital will provide better facilities for 72 residents by refurbishing and extending the existing community nursing home to satisfy the necessary physical environment standards and to better serve the needs of the people living there”, said Minister Stanton.
The project is currently at detailed design stage but the HSE has confirmed that planning documents are currently being prepared in tandem with the design process. It is anticipated that a planning application will be made to Cork County Council by the end of November. Then provided the application is successful, and subject to the availability of capital funding, the project will be put out to tender. The HSE envisages that associated project works could begin as early as the third quarter of 2019 with an anticipated completion date of approximately twelve months once the works have commenced.
Speaking upon confirmation of the news, Minister Stanton said “I am delighted to learn that there has been substantial progress on the St Patrick’s Community Hospital project with the design stage to be completed in the near future. I hope that the planning application will soon be submitted to enable these much needed works to proceed. The hospital redevelopment is a hugely important project for residents, staff and the wider community and will greatly enhance community nursing home facilities in the Fermoy area.”
