Over €400,000 has been allocated to four projects in Cork East constituency under the Government’s Town and Village Renewal Scheme 2018, says Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice & Equality, David Stanton. Funding will be allocated to Cork County Council who will deliver the projects in tandem with the local communities.
“My colleague, the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, has confirmed to me today that Carrigtwohill, Cloyne, Mitchelstown and Youghal will all benefit from substantial funding under this year’s scheme.

Carrigtwohill – Development of community campus – €100,000
Cloyne – Village enhancement including Litton fountain – €50,000
Mitchelstown – Development of age friendly features – €164,800
Youghal – Town enhancements including maritime sculpture – €95,000
Total – €409,800
“The Town and Village Renewal Scheme is a key part of the Government’s Action Plan for Rural Development which supports growth and economic development in rural Ireland. It is aimed at towns and villages with populations of fewer than 5,000 people with almost €53 million has been approved for more than 670 projects across the country under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme since it was introduced in the second half of 2016.
“The Government’s commitment to supporting rural Ireland is further underscored through the new €1 billion Rural Regeneration and Development Fund which was launched this year as part of Project Ireland 2040. This new Fund will provide an opportunity to deliver more ambitious projects which will further support the revitalisation of our rural towns and villages in the coming years.
“These projects will all really enhance these towns and villages and give a real boost to the local communities. They will also support enterprise and job creation. I want to thank the Local Authorities for their efforts and co-operation in engaging with local communities to identify these projects.”
