Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stanton has welcomed the news that Doneraile House has been awarded over €900,000 in funding for substantial refurbishment works. The funding is being made available via the Office of Public Works (OPW).

“I was delighted to get confirmation from my colleague, Minister of State, Kevin Boxer Moran, that the OPW will place a contract tomorrow for refurbishment of Doneraile House. The total value of the contract will be in the region of €900,000 with work due to start in the coming weeks.

“In addition to a complete refurbishment of the ground floor, the contract will also include the development of a new exhibition area. Additional works will be required to fit out this new exhibition space once the refurbishment contract has been completed.

“Doneraile House is a magnificent building which I have visited on a number of occasions recently and was hugely impressed with its potential. It was constructed in the late 1600s situated on over 400 acres of parkland located just outside Doneraile which has proved a hugely popular visitor attraction in recent years”, said Minister Stanton.

“This announcement is great news for Doneraile and for the general north Cork area in general as it will greatly enhance the tourism product of the area.
