Three coastal community projects in Cork East have been awarded €45,261.42 of Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG) funding, says Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stanton.
FLAG grants are co-funded by the Government and the European Union under Ireland’s European Maritime & Fisheries Fund (EMFF) Operational Programme 2014-2020. This funding is part of an EMFF funding package of €1.5 million recently announced by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed T.D. and awarded to 106 coastal based projects.
“The FLAG initiative is proving very successful and I was pleased to see that three local projects have been awarded funding. These are:
• Clean Coasts Ballynamona – environmental action group for the preservation of the marine environment in Ballycotton Bay and East Cork – €19,923.42
• Cobh Summer Swing Festival – €2,356
• Eire Bass Cobh – Cork Harbour saltwater fly fishing business upgrade – €22,972
This funding to our local projects will be a huge boost to our coastal communities” revealed Minister Stanton.
Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) assists FLAGs to deliver this programme via grant-aid, training and on the ground facilitation, with dedicated regional FLAG coordinators in each region. Successful projects included investments in micro seafood enterprises, marine tourism and marine leisure projects, heritage projects, small harbour facilities, and environmental and training projects.
