Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton has welcomed further progress on securing a site for new permanent accommodation for Midleton Educate Together Primary School.

“Last week in Dail Eireann, I sought a progress update on the new school from Minister for Education and Skills, Jan O’Sullivan TD and was advised that the acquisition of a site for permanent accommodation for Midleton Educate Together is at an advanced stage and is subject to the satisfactory completion of the conveyancing process. Once this is completed the school authorities will be contacted so the project can be progressed.

“A new permanent school for Midleton Educate Together was listed in the Department of Education and Skills 5 year building programme which is due to go to construction in the next academic year. It is one of the five new school building projects in Midleton and Carrigtwohill, including a new Gaelscoil and new primary and secondary schools in Carrigtwohill due to be built in 2014/2015. These are in addition to the many extension projects at primary and secondary schools in the East Cork area, some of which are completed and others which are well underway

“Midleton Educate Together has gone from strength to strength since it first opened its doors to pupils in August 2008. The school is now located at Market Green, however this site is temporary and it would be very difficult for any further extensions to be accommodated there.

“I would hope that the site acquisition will soon be finalised to allow the school to move to a permanent site so it can continue to cater for the demand for places from parents of prospective pupils.
