The announcement of €60,000 in government funding for conservation works on St Mary’s Collegiate Church in Youghal has been welcomed by Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton. The funding is being made available by the Minister for Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan TD to Cork County Council for works to the church.

“I am very pleased that Cork County Council is receiving this money to carry out the necessary conservation and preservation works on St Mary’s Church. The Church is one of just five heritage structures in the country under state care to receive funding.

“St Mary’s Collegiate Church is a fabulous building and is one of the oldest churches in the country. It is a valuable asset to Youghal and I hope that the allocation of €60,000 for preservation works will ensure it continues to be an asset, not just to the people of Youghal who worship there, but also to the many tourists who travel to the town to view such a fine example of our built heritage.
