Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton has warmly welcomed the commencement of construction on the extension to Christian Brothers Secondary School (CBS) in Midleton.

“I am delighted to see this multi million Euro project commence with the sod turning ceremony last week. I understand that up to 65 extra rooms will be provided for the school to include state of the art science laboratories, construction studies rooms, woodwork rooms etc. I believe a full size PE hall with a competition size basketball court will also for part of the build.

“This major investment in young people in Midleton has been needed for many years and, when completed, the new school, which will be visible from the main road, will be a statement of confidence in and recognition of the decades of education provided by the Christian Brothers in Midleton.

“With over 9000 square metres of classrooms, specialist and modern sporting facilities, the students that will attend Midleton CBS Secondary in the future will have every opportunity and advantage to develop to their full potential from an education, cultural and sporting perspective.

“I want to congratulate the board of management, principal and staff on all the work that has been done to date to bring this project to fruition. I am delighted that the Government was in a position to provide funding and I look forward to other such projects in East Cork in the near future”.

Deputy Stanton concluded by saying that he had been concerned for a number of years about the need to provide extra secondary school second level places in East Cork. From the growth in population and the huge increase in the number of pupils attending primary school it was obvious that more secondary school places would also be required. David Stanton said that he was delighted to see Midleton CBS being extended with the most modern facilities possible.
