Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton has welcomed today’s announcement that a new round of funding under the Sports Capital Programme is now open for applications. A total of €40 million will be allocated under this round, the third in recent years to sports clubs and organisations.

“I am very pleased that the new round of the Sports Capital Programme is now open. This funding affirms the Government’s commitment to improving sports facilities across the country which are vital to the health and wellbeing of communities”, said Deputy Stanton.

“It was great to see so many East Cork sports organisations securing funding in the previous two funding rounds, despite very large number of applications, and I would hope that many more will be successful in the 2015 programme. Grants are used to improve outdoor and indoor facilities, such as pitches, clubhouses and dressing rooms and also can be used to purchase new equipment. All these things are critical to ensure sustained levels of participation in sport from members of the community of all ages.

“I would urge any sporting group, club or organisation who is seeking funding to go to www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie to find out further funding information. All those interested must ensure they are registered on the online system before 5pm, Friday, 10th April 2015 and submit their applications online before the deadline of 5pm, 24th April 2015.
